Tips and Tricks!

3 Easy Steps…

One: Put the headband on your head. Don’t place it back too far.

Two: Gently push the Velcro piece into place. (It can go back a bit [1/4”] to hold it securely in place)

Three: Take the ribbons and pull them downward to make the headband taut. Then tie them together in a knot. You can leave the ribbons down or simply tie them in a bow to hide the ends under your hair.

You can wear your hair down, up, half up/down, back…anyway works!
Washing Instructions: Hand wash, lay flat to dry, iron out the wrinkles (cool to warm iron)!!

Small Business Vendor Craft Fair!

For the past two days we have been participating in the Small Business Vendor Craft Fair at Salt Lake Community College. It was a great experience and we were able to sell a good amount of headbands!! I think we gave out hundreds of business cards so if nothing else, at least we got some exposure!! It was a bit stressful getting things ready and building up our supply to take, but it ended up worth it! Yeah!!! :)

I was able to display and sell my headbands last weekend at my shoe party. I ended up selling quite a few. I am really pleased with the way my display and packaging have turned out.

By next week I will get the opportunity to sell my headbands in the hair salon I go to. I am really excited about having them in a new place. We'll see how it turns out!

I will post pics of the new items and display as soon as I can!

How to heat seal ribbons....

There are a number of ways to heat seal the ends of ribbon to prevent them from fraying. Here are the most common ways:

1. Candle: Yup, just your household candle flame will work just great. Just be careful because it is a real flame!

2. Wood burner: You can purchase this tool from any craft or hobby store.

3. Lighter: This tends to heat up faster and could possible burn easier.

**Instructions for 1-3: Quickly pass the ends of your newly cut ribbons under a flame from left to right. Be sure you get it out before the ribbon burns. About one trip through should do the trick! If not repeat once more.

4. Heat Sealing Tool: Sold HERE Follow the instructions on packaging.

5. Product: Such as Fray Check. This can be found at most sewing stores. Follow the directions on the packaging.

6. Clear Fingernail Polish: Paint a thin coat on the edges and allow them to dry. This should prevent them from fraying. Apply more when needed.

**Instructions for 4-6: Make sure the nail polish doesn't change the color of your ribbon before you put it on your finished product. You can test it on the underside that is not going to show.

Yesterday was a good day for sales - We sold six headbands. Things have been slow lately so it was nice to have it pick up yesterday morning.

What are the top 5 things I do when business is slow??

I purchased this designer fabric from The Fabric Shoppe. It is Amy Butler's Wallflower in cherry. I am going to make some headbands out of it and get them posted soon.

I am in LOVE with this shop! I love hats but they don't fit unless they have an velcro closure so that it will fit my small head. But Brenda from BKM custom made me a hat and it fits perfectly!! It was so adorable and was packaged so cute! I am so going back for more!

So I have been debating over the past couple of weeks whether or not to increase my prices a bit. I need to from a business stand point because I didn't expect PayPal to take out as much of a fee as they do. And it takes me almost the same amount of time to make both types. I guess I just didn't know that much about selling before I started. So I am sorry that I had to increase my prices just a bit to cover those costs! But I think it's still the cheapest on Etsy! So have at it!

Getting the hang of things...

First we want to start off the day with shouting our success!! Yesterday we had 6 orders and sold a total of 12 headbands!! We are loving the good karma that is coming our way. We have officially been online with photos/postings since July 3rd. So we think we are doing pretty well with 30 items sold in 2 weeks. We couldn’t have imagined it going any better for us.

We are in the middle of getting together new photos for our 20 + new headbands! We had a lot of requests to see the product on a model so we tried our mannequin head named Sam. First after posting the photos we realized she is a little scary so we are looking into re-doing our photos to show less of her face. This is a super long process though – it takes a while to take the photos with the right lighting, positioning etc. and then to get them posted we have to spend a lot of time on Photoshop cropping and resizing so they look good. Just be patient with us while we are working through this.

As for everything else we are getting ready to buy our own sewing machine! We are still finishing about 6 new headbands to post and are still looking for more awesome fabrics.
